ROSACEA

RESTORE RADIANT, CALM SKIN

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness, visible blood vessels, and often leading to pustules or bumps. While the exact cause of rosacea remains unknown, several factors contribute to its development.

WHY DOES ROSACEA DEVELOP?

Genetics and Family History

There is evidence to suggest that genetics play a role in rosacea. If you have a family history of rosacea, you may be at a higher risk of developing the condition.

Dysfunction of Blood Vessels

Blood vessel abnormalities and dysfunction have been observed in individuals with rosacea. These abnormalities can lead to persistent redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels.

Inflammation and Immune System Response

Inflammatory responses and immune system dysregulation are thought to contribute to the development of rosacea. Certain triggers, such as exposure to sunlight, hot drinks, spicy foods, and alcohol, can exacerbate the inflammatory response and lead to flare-ups.

Demodex Mites

These microscopic mites are naturally present on the skin and are found in higher numbers in individuals with rosacea. While their exact role in rosacea development is still under investigation, it is believed that an overgrowth or sensitivity to these mites may contribute to the condition.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ROSACEA?

Rosacea manifests in various forms and stages. Here's an overview of the common subtypes of rosacea:

STAGE 1

Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea

This subtype is characterised by persistent facial redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels. It may also involve a feeling of tightness or stinging sensations on the skin.

STAGE 2

Papulopustular Rosacea

Presents like stage 1 with acne-like pustules and small bumps.

STAGE 3

Phymatous Rosacea

This type is associated with thickening of the skin, often leading to a bulbous or enlarged nose (rhinophyma), as well as irregularities on the cheeks, chin, and forehead.

OCULAR ROSACEA

Ocular rosacea affects the eyes, causing symptoms such as redness, dryness, grittiness, and even vision disturbances. It may occur alongside the skin manifestations of rosacea.
